A Blake and Bolt double act

Yohan Blake and Usain Bolt formed a bit of a double act at the press conference of the Belgacom Memorial Van Damme.

With his time in the 200m Yohan Blake surprised himself: 'I know I'm in good shape but I did not expect 19.26. In training sessions Usain and myself have been vice versa, but he is like a father to me and told me to be more in control in the corners. I negotiated it all nicely and had a crazy last 50m.'

Blake was happy he ran the 200m and Bolt the 100m. 'Usain is still the best in the 200m. I am looking forward to the London Olympics. Next year is not about beating Usain, but for me is about being patient. He's a wonderful guy to compete with.

Bolt taught Blake how to call upon the 'beast' while warming up, to feel warm and mighty and not afraid of anything. 'Before the race Bolt motivated me. He teaches me philosophy of life and about track and field. He has been the driver of the car, and the car is fast,' Blake said jokingly. Usain Bolt acknowledged Blake's performance but on his turn joked that he still is the number one.'

As for his own performance, Bolt said he never aimed at a world year best, 'I did it for the fans, to go out there, do a good race and do well. Prove I could have done better in the worlds.'

The Belgian university of Louvain analysed the times of Usain Bolt and it clearly showed he has to work on his start. Whereas Bolt's output was 6m/s in the first 5 meter only, he upped that to 12.21 m/s between 60m and 65m, which translates into 43.95m/h. Bolt agreed, 'It was a bit of a slow start.'

The Jamaican continued about the Memorial: 'Maybe I should have been in the 200m, because there were four athletes under 20. But this is the last race, I'm injure-free so I'm happy. Now it's vacation time.'
